Your George Mason Patriots are hosting three visitors. Efeosa Oliogu-Elabor, Jerone Morton, and Grant Randall.

Efeosa Oliogu-Elabor is a rising sophomore wing/forward out of Butler, Morton is a rising senior guard out of Washington State, and Randall is a rising junior combo forward out of Quinnipiac.

Efeosa Oliogu-Elabor

Efeosa was the 131st ranked player coming out of high school in the class of 2025, with a 4-star and .9437 247Composite rating. After entering the portal, he was considered a three star portal prospect at 86, which is the same rating that the 234th ranked portal prospect has.

Oliogu-Elabor spent his freshman season at Butler, averaging 5 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2 assists in 10.4 minutes per game and on 41.9% eFG. The major issue is him shooting 10.5% from three. The biggest bright spots on this side of the court are his high assist rate of 22.1%, although also having a 23.6% turnover rate, and having a 55.2 free throw rate, drawing 4.4 fouls per 40.

But you’re not getting the Toronto native for his offense. This guy has incredible defensive potential.

And is very explosive.

Oliogu-Elabor had a box plus minus of -.2, with it being -1.7 on offense and positive 1.5 on defense. There is something to work with there, along with his 1.7% and 2.7% block and steal rate.

Some Mason fans were looking for Deshawn Harris-Smith to come to Fairfax. I think this is probably a pretty similar prospect, except this guy is on an earlier development track.

The other A10 team in the mix here is Richmond. Let’s hope they can win this battle against the guys down in Henrico.

Jerone Morton

Jerone Morton was most recently at Washington State but spent his first two seasons at Morehead State, where he was more of a point guard.

Morton was an unranked prospect out of high school in the class of 2023, and is now an 86 rated portal prospect, same as Efeosa.

With Wazzou, he averaged 7.8 points, 2.6 assists, and 1.9 rebounds per game on 56.8% true shooting, along with 39.2% from three. The latter is probably the big draw.

The 6’4 guard may have some untapped potential due to his role change at Washington State, where he played as a two-guard and had a fine assist rate of 18.6%. In his sophomore season at Morehead State, Jerone had a 26.6% assist rate, which is very good. If you can get both the playmaking and the shooting, that is how you get major value from him.

The other team in the mix here is Kansas State, which is a more difficult battle than Richmond, especially for a senior who won’t get another year.

Grant Randall

This staff is familiar with Grant Randall, as he held an offer coming out of high school in 2024.

Randall is a 6’9 junior who really blurs the line of forward and wing. More forwardy than Woody Newton, but not by a lot.

During his sophomore year at Quinnipiac, Grant averaged 11.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, .8 assists, .9 steals, and .7 blocks in 31.6 minutes per game on 57% true shooting.

The defense is nice. A 2.4% and 1.7% block and steal rate are pretty good, along with a fine 16.1% defensive rebounding percentage.

The three is fine at 33.6% on 6.9 attempts per 100 possessions, around average for both.

The main competition here is Cincinnati, how funny.

If Randall is still sought after even with the additions of Adair and Marcus, that would in signal that the staff think Grant can play the three, or Adair/Marcus can play the five, since otherwise you would be three deep at the four with veterans who expect major playing time, and that is before you get to Shane Pendergrass and Ryan-Preston Mendy. If I were to guess, it would be Randall being a jumbo three.

What Does This Mean?

Mason has made some splashes and they still are not done. I don’t expect them to pick up all three of these guys, but getting one or two could prove to be useful.
