George Mason has received a pledge from 6’9 Forward, Elvis Nnaji. Rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports, and On3, Nnaji is taking his talents to Fairfax after a stellar career at Hopkins High School in Minnesota where he averaged 15ppg during his Senior season, leading the Royals to the Section 6AAAA Semi-Finals, and personally receiving an invite to the prestigious Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Series. Elvis will join Justyn Fernandez, Devin Dinkins, and Peter Oduro as part of George Mason’s freshman class next season, making up one of the highest rated classes in the history of the program.

Nnaji received his offer from the Patriots on March 26th, and following an official visit last month, he ultimately decided to don the Green and Gold. “George Mason stood out the most because it made me feel at home in a way” said Nnaji. “The visit helped me understand that this is a place I can be very successful by working on my craft to reach the next level.” When he let Coach English know that he would be heading to Fairfax, his new Head Coach couldn’t contain himself: “He was excited! He hurt his elbow bumping his arm out of excitement.”

For Coach English, and George Mason fans, there is a ton to be excited about when you watch the highlights. The Patriots are getting a big, powerful Forward who will immediately come in and compete for minutes. Following an AAU event in July 2021, Dushawn London of 247Sports provided a quick scouting report: “At 6-foot-9 Nnaji has good athleticism, plays extremely hard, runs the floor well, and is a strong finisher around the rim.” In addition, Nnaji has prioritized improving his ball handling and outside shot, having shown an ability to take defenders off the dribble, and shoot comfortably from distance when given the space.

When asked about his goals and expectations, Nnaji looks to head into Year 1 with a workmanlike approach, “Any accomplishment a freshman can receive is my goal to attain by continuously getting better.” As for what fans can expect from this Patriots team next season, Elvis wants to put everyone on notice, The Bank is where you will want to be: “Every game will be a show that will be hard to forget, and something to talk about!”
