This interview was conducted by David Houck of GMU recruiting.

  • While the majority of recruiting news and attention has been centered on the Transfer Portal, there has been a name that George Mason fans have grown familiar with and continued to monitor in the Class of 2022, with hope of him donning the Green and Gold. That name is Elvis Nnaji.

The 6’9 Forward out of Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota (just outside of Minneapolis) surfaced as a Patriot prospect in mid-March, and soon after he announced that he had received an offer from Coach English.

Fresh off of his visit to Fairfax this past weekend, Nnaji was gracious enough to spend some time recapping his visit, talking about his relationship with the staff, his timeline for his college decision, and most importantly, how he likes his steak cooked.

Tell us about your visit experience. What was the best part for you?

I’d say the staff and the environment. I can tell everyone is a family, and it’s a place anyone can be successful at.

Talk about your relationship with Coach English and the rest of the staff.

I’ve known coach English the longest, he was recruiting me 2 years at Tennessee until the whole covid era, but we definitely have a strong relationship. The rest of the coaching staff is just as great! Like I said, it’s a family.

What was the staff’s message to you? What role do they envision you taking?

Essentially, I have to work for what I want, but I’d be looking to play the wing/4 position.

Which players did you spend the most time with?

I spent the most time with Justyn (Fernandez)

Describe your game, what would Mason Nation have to look forward to?

I’d say my motor and competitiveness along with my room for learning and growth.

What other schools are still in the mix?

Hampton, Valparaiso, and Lamar, but I’ve narrowed it down and will be making a decision soon.

Do you have a commitment date in mind?

In about a week and a half. (This interview took place on Wednesday, April 27th)

Last question, Coach English likes to clown several members of the team for how they like their steak cooked. How do you like your steak cooked?

    Definitely well done
