HOW BOUT THOSE GEORGE MASON PATRIOTS!

That feels good tonight ladies and gentlemen, that feels good.

George Mason knocks off Richmond 87-84 in overtime, getting revenge after Monday’s 3 point loss in Richmond. The return of Josh Oduro had the Patriots feeling good, and the team showed up to pull out a hard fought win over Richmond for the first time in three years.

D’Shawn Schwartz was that guy tonight. He led Mason with 24 points, going 6-11 from three and hit 4 clutch free throws in the OT period to help close this game out. Josh Oduro added 22, while grabbing 14 boards. And Xavier Johnson had a break out game today, continue his strong last couple of games, putting up 17 points with 9 assists, being the key third scorer Mason needed tonight.

After Jacob Gilyard killed Mason on Monday night, the Patriots shut him down tonight. He only had 13 points and shot 4-14 from the field. Grant Golden led the Spiders tonight with 23.

Afterwards, I got the chance to talk to Kim English. A key question I asked Coach was the role of Blake Buchanan going forward. He responded with, “Blake is now part of this rotation and will be for the rest of the season. I said at the beginning of the season in practice that he was one of our top eight guys. I didn’t keep to that, and I will now be fixing that mistake. He fits the exact culture we want to build here and he will continue to get opportunities for the remainder of the year.”

Mason will host the other team from Richmond Saturday for Homecoming at 4PM. Everyone needs to turn out and support this team!
