The Epitome of Brutality: Mason loses 89-98 to Georgia Southern

I’m in shock.

I honestly don’t know what to say.

The Patriots were off to a great start in the first half, probably the best start I’ve ever seen them play, and they blew it.

After five treys from Jaire Grayer, things looked great for the Patriots.

I had no complaints in my halftime thoughts.

In the first half, Mason went 18-28 from the field, 11-15 from three, and had 21 rebounds.

Something I really liked was that Mason had 11 assists in the first half, that is always appreciated.

Georgia Southern went 12-29 for FG’s, 1-5 from three, and had only 11 rebounds.

Ok, before we go on, you might want to put these on, because what you’re about to see is not pretty.

Got them on? Ok, let’s go.

In the second half, the Patriots went 12-30 for FG’s, 3-8 from three, and 15 rebounds.

Not bad, they put up 35 points. However…

Georgia Southern went 21-27 from the field, 1-3 from three, and an egregious 21-31 from behind the charity stripe. They scored 64 points.

The Patriots committed 21 fouls in the second half. 21.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN BEATS GEORGE MASON 98-89

Some notable things from this game:

  • We need to be able to finish games, and not give up 20 point leads. The line graph of win probablility shouldn’t look like the bell curve of one of my Govt 133 exams.
  • Otis Livingston II only had two points, the third time that has happened in his collegiate career. I would love to see him get out of this funk.
  • Grayer looks great, he had 25 points in his 31 minutes. I want more of this, he needs to be in the game in final minutes, especially in games like UPenn and American.
  • Kier had a great game scoring 20 points, and being 100% (3-3) from the behind the arch. One aspect I didn’t like is next.
  • TURNOVERS. TURNOVERS.TURNOVERS. Kier had 6 turnovers, Otis had 6 turnovers, and surprisingly, Greene had 5 turnovers. Lots of these were unforced, NEEDS TO BE FIXED. There was lots of sloppy ball movement.
  • Greene had 10 points, and Boyd had 12, both solid performances.
  • Mason had 33 rebounds and 31 PF’s, way too many fouls, and we need more discipline.
  • Hartwell played well, would like him to get more minutes on the court.

I hope this team turns around. The last time the Patriots the Patriots went 0-4 was back in the 1979-1980 season, where they started 0-10.
