Your George Mason Patriots have brought in another intriguing visitor in 6’9 forward/wing Kaseem Watson, out of Delaware State of the MEAC. Watson just completed his redshirt sophomore season, so he will have two years of eligibility remaining.
The Kaseem has a brother named Kareem who has been with him at both Cal State Bakersfield and Delaware State. As far as I can tell, Kareem has not entered the portal, and will not be following him again.
The redshirt sophomore was a member of the All-MEAC Third Team last season, where he averaged 15.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1 steal per game on 50.9% from the field, 36.4% from three, and 77.5% from the line.
The Philly native had a 25.1% shot rate with a 55% true shooting, with that raising to 60.2% in conference play.
Another strength is drawing fouls, kind of. Watson draws 3.6 fouls per 40, which is under the 4 per 40 arbitrary cutoff for being high, but had a free throw rate of 29.6, which was 19th in a conference eight teams. It may not be the biggest strength, but something is there.
The biggest question I have with Kaseem is if he is going to be a big 3/wing, or a forward.
The body looks like a wing, he moves like a wing, I think that the 6’9 is what is bothering me with figuring out whether he is a wing or a forward. Watson is somewhere between the two, and I suspect he will be on the “good” side of tweener, where the tweener can play both positions, not neither.
This is the most interesting/confusing visitor Mason has had this cycle, as it really is hard to tell what is going on there, but I do think it is good. At times he looks like Emoni Bates. Of course, I am not comparing him skill-wise to a former 5-star and fringe NBA player, but if you see some of his highlights, you will get it.
This guy is part of No Ceilings, a good draft source, and as you can see, he has him on his watchlist. There’s a 99% chance he means as a UDFA/Summer League guy, but that is still cool to see.
