Your George Mason Patriots are bringing in a visitor that is a familiar face to Tony Skinn: Jahari Long, a 6’5 guard out of Houston.
Jahari played for two seasons at Seton Hall, where Tony Skinn was an assistant under Kevin Willard. He then went on to play for two seasons at Maryland, with a third medical redshirt season. Skinn was there for Long’s first Maryland season.
Long missed all of 2024-25 due to a torn ACL he suffered in the 2024 Big Ten Tournament. I would assume that he will be fine to play next season, since that would be 18 months between injury and official practice.
The Maryland transfer went to Episcopal High School, the same as Justin Begg, although there is no overlap due to Long being a 6th year senior and Begg being a freshman. Justin also just entered the portal, which makes me sad.
In the class of 2020, Jahari was a 3-star recruit, with a .8856 247 Composite score and being ranked 252nd.
When I see highlights of Long, they reminds me of a more two-guard-y version of Ronald Polite, which would be very nice to have off the bench.
In his senior season for Maryland, Jahari Long averaged 4.7 points, 1.4 assists, and 1.2 rebounds on 41.6% from the field, 35.5% from three, and 77.4% from the line, with an eFG of 51.3% and True Shooting of 54.8%. That is fine shooting, and the splits are not far off from 2022-23 Ronald Polite, albeit much lower volume.
Long has been listed as a PG in two of his seasons on KenPom, but that is just kind of not real. Not once has he had a positive assist-turnover percentage ratio, which kind of excludes you from being viewed as a point guard, even if the percentages are high.
This is a player who had been in the rotation for Maryland in two seasons, and would likely be a big piece off the bench for your 2025-26 George Mason Patriots.
