Jeremiah Quigley, a 5’11 transfer point guard from Iona, is visiting Fairfax and Tony Skinn on Wednesday, April 17th. Quigley is a rising sophomore, and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

The Iona transfer was unranked out of Bishop McNamara, a school in Maryland. Although he was unranked, Quigley had offers from Iona, Radford, NJIT, and UMBC.

Jeremiah put himself on the map during his freshman season, as he is now rated as a three-star transfer on On3.

The Accokeek, Maryland native made the All-MAAC rookie team this past season after averaging 10.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 turnovers on 41.4% shooting from the field, 33.3% shooting from behind the arc, and 77% shooting from the line.

Those efficiency numbers aren’t great, but I have definitely seen freshmen shoot a lot more and make a lot less. Also, a nearly two to one assist to turnover ratio is not bad for a freshman. That is better playmaking efficiency than Baraka Okojie this season, and on par with Ronald Polite’s best playmaking seasons.

Quigley was a full-time starter from late January onward, and really turned it up at the end of the season, scoring double digits in his last eight games.

Something that kind of pops on his stats sheet is there are some games where it seems like he got fouled every time he touched the ball. He went 11-16 from the line in a game against Rider. While you would like him to hit more than 11 of those, shooting 16 is crazy for a 5’11 guard.

From the small amount that I have seen of Quigley, he seems to love the free throw line midrange, and is good at finishing near the rim if he can get there. It also seems like he can play on or off the ball.

Jeremiah is definitely a talented passer, and I could see him making a huge jump in that department.

Based on how Iona twitter is feeling about him leaving, I think Mason fans should be pretty excited the prospect of him joining the team.

What’s the best thing about freshmen? They turn into sophomores. I’d love to see his leap under Tony Skinn.
