It’s been a busy week in Fairfax as 2025 prospects Omari Witherspoon and Riley Jacobs took unofficial visits to Mason this week, the first 2025 visits of the Tony Skinn era.

Omari Witherspoon

Witherspoon is a 6’4 combo guard out of Bowie, Maryland. He took an unofficial visit to Mason on Wednesday, August 23rd and was offered a scholarship the same day.

The Bowie native transferred from Archbishop Caroll High School to St. John’s College High School, both schools in DC.

When he’s not playing for his high school, Omari plays for DC Premier, one of the better-known DMV AAU teams.

Witherspoon holds offers from Mason, Stony Brook, NJIT, Nicholls State, Loyola Maryland, Towson, American, Old Dominion, Norfolk State, Morehead State, and George Washington. It is worth noting that his first D1 offer was from Kim English’s Mason squad, so he was likely already somewhat familiar with the school.

Omari is in good hands, with Coach Hinnant, one of the team’s DMV specialists, being the main guy recruiting him.

The 6’4 guard has shown the ability to use his size and length to disrupt passing lanes and take it the other way. He’s also shown that when he’s guarding a guy one on one, he isn’t going to let them shoot over him without a great contest.

On the other side of the court, Witherspoon seems to be surprisingly comfortable shooting threes from the college line for a rising junior. He doesn’t need the ball in his hands, as he can play both on and off the ball. When there is another PG on his team, he is able to slide over to the two-spot.

I can see Omari’s size and skillset translating well into the A10 and the team’s theme of Patriot Pressure. Choose Mason.

Riley Jacobs

Jacobs is a 6’8 athletic forward out of Alexandria, who currently attends St. Stephens-St. Agnes. He also unofficially visited Mason this week, Friday, August 25th, and received a scholarship offer the same day.

The Alexandria native plays for New World 2025, a 3SSB team based in the DMV.

Jacobs also has a background in track and field, where he ran the 110m hurdles and did the high jump. This explains how he moves and jumps the way he does.

Riley currently has offers from Mason, Old Dominion, Bryant, Loyola Maryland, Norfolk State, George Washington, and Mount St. Mary’s while getting some interest from Xavier and UVA.

The 6’8 forward is being recruited by Coach Curran, Skinn’s top assistant, who has a history of a great eye for talent.

Jacobs is an extremely versatile player on both ends of the floor. On defense, he has extremely active hands. If the ball is near him, he’s using his length to get at it. He isn’t just a rim protector, he uses his instincts to be able to stop anything in the paint. In the event that he switches onto a guard, he can hold his own on the perimeter. When the opposing team has a fast-break opportunity, they have to play extremely safe as Riley is able to use his length, speed, and instincts to make even a three on one difficult.

The forward has surprisingly good handles for his size. He has no trouble bringing the ball up the floor and can even break down his defender from the perimeter occasionally. While he can shoot from outside, his bread and butter is paint scoring.

I could see Mason’s most recent visitor playing either the forward or big wing role, as he possesses qualities of both. His traits would definitely translate up to the A10. Choose Mason.
