At 6:45 Saturday morning, Patrick Stevens broke this:
George Mason forward Goanar Mar will undergo foot surgery to correct a fracture. He’ll be out indefinitely, and it is uncertain whether the starter will return this season.

Men’s basketball later corroborated it with a tweet of their own:
Goanar Mar will have surgery to correct a foot fracture and will be out indefinitely. Return this year is uncertain.

Head coach Dave Paulsen stated,
“We’re heartbroken for Goanar. I’ve never had a player be as passionate about the success of the team as a whole. He’s put in 30 minutes before and after every practice to get better. He cares so much about playing well but he also cares so much about his teammates. He’s been playing at an elite defensive level and is a big reason for our improvement. He’s going to be missed, but we look forward to him making a full recovery.”
According to a team official, the injury occurred in the Davidson game, however, GK is unsure when it occurred in the game.
This season Mar has averaged 3.5 ppg and 2.8 rpg in 16 games played. He has struggled since last season when he averaged 10.9 ppg, and 4.4 rpg.
Based on prior foot injuries with Jaire Grayer, I say Mason will sit him out for the rest of the season as a precaution. The Patriots can’t afford to lose another guard to a nagging injury moving forward.
Now with Grayer out and Mar out, who hops into the starting lineup? My guess. Either Ian Boyd or A.J. Wilson.
Tyler gave us his opinion on the matter:
The team weathered the storm with Jaire Grayer out (6-3 without him). I would say A.J. Wilson would get more playing time but Paulsen is not afraid to play with four-guard lineups leaving Ian Boyd a chance for more minutes.

The support for Mar came in waves from his teammates, fans, and even the university president, Angel Cabera.
Get well soon Goanar.
