Oh boy, here we go again.

This will be a shorter preview than normal because I‘m currently writing this with a fever, but however, I digress, let’s get on with the preview.

The Patriots will play in their first road test of the season against Georgia Southern (GS) tonight.

After last year’s game against GS, the Patriots lost in their worst performance of the year, 74-51.

As a freshman watching that game, I thought that we would never lose like that ever again.

I was wrong.

Anyway, this is Mason’s first trip to the Hanner Fieldhouse, which marks the third time Mason has played GS, with Mason losing both of the previous contests.

BREAKING DOWN GS

  • GS achieved 20 wins for the second time in four years in the 2017-2018 season, going 21-12 overall.
  • This year the Eagles we picked to finish in second in the Sun Belt Preseason Coach Poll.
  • Georgia Southern senior guards Tookie Brown and Ike Smith were named All-Sun Belt players. We’ll need to make sure we keep an eye on them.
  • GS welcomes six new players on the roster. This is actually the most acquired in the career under their current head coach, Mark Byington.
  • GS also returns five players from last year’s squad.

BREAKING DOWN THE PATRIOTS’ SEASON SO FAR

  • This year Mason has started 0-2. Last season oddly enough, last season the Patriots were 10-1 in games won by 10 points or less.
  • In the last game against American, a couple Patriots set new career highs and personal records.
  • Otis Livingston II recorded 10 assists for the first time in his career and also recorded his first double-double, which actually surprised me.
  • Javon Greene recorded a career high in points with 18 and rebounds with 12, achieving first double-double in his collegiate career.
  • One stat that stood out to me was that Mason’s bench is averaging 32.5 points per game, and we’re only two games in.

MY THOUGHTS

I’m not optimistic about this game because if we lost like that last year, I think we’re destined to lose even worse this time.

Let’s hope that we get our act together for tonight.
