This will be a series where I write a brief synopsis of players offered scholarships by George Mason University.

Jahmir Young announced on July 17, 2018 that George Mason University had offered him a scholarship. George Mason is not the only school to offer Jahmir a scholarship to come play basketball.  After an outstanding showing at Peach Jam (an AAU tournament where he plays for Team Takeover), received calls from UNC Charlotte (an offer as well), UNC Greensboro, La Salle, Old Dominion, University of Massachusetts and Siena. The 6’0 guard out of Dematha Catholic in Hyattsville, Maryland is a point guard for the 2019 class. When Jahmir talks about his game, he is a passer first and shooter second, “I am a pass first guard who likes to get my teammates involved. A crafty lefty with a quick first step, and can knock down shots from deep.” His stock continues to rise, especially after the Peach Jam tournament. During the Peach Jam tournament, he lead his team, the D.C. based AAU program Team Takeover, in scoring twice. He helped lead ‘Team Takeover’ to a championship while scoring a team high 16 points.

A highlight tape of his well-rounded play is available on YouTube. In this highlight, he shows his ability to dribble, drive and take contested shots; which will be key at the collegiate level. The left handed point guard also shows his ability to shoot from long range at multiple times throughout the video. Even though he is a little on the smaller end, he finished strong and initiated contact for an and 1. I personally like his interview at the end of the video where he talks about how he talks about the team, and not himself. Give Jahmir a follow on Twitter. What are your all thoughts on Jahmir? Let us know in the comments below.
