Your George Mason Patriots have brought in 6’11 Samford transfer big Riley Allenspach for a visit. The Charlotte native spent his first two seasons at Samford, and will have two seasons of eligibliy. He also visited Virginia Tech and Northwestern.

On the season, Riley averaged 7.8 points, 3 rebounds, and .7 assists on 57.5% from the field, 48% from three, and 67.1% from the line in just 13.6 minutes per game. He was efficient, with an eFG of 61.4% and a true shooting of 63%.

In Samford’s game against Mason, Allenspach scored 7 points on 1-2 from three and 4-6 from the line in 14 minutes. He did have 0 rebounds.

The rebounding is a mixed bag, as if the 6’11 forward met the minutes requirements, he would be first in offensive rebounding percentage in conference play, but 33rd in defensive rebounding.

From what I can tell, Riley does not have an extensive post game, but is very fundamental in what he does. The shooting is also pretty nuts.

According to College Basketball Scouting on YouTube, the Samford big took 78% of his shots at the rim, and made 63% of them. He also had an eFG of 72%, which is in the 99th percentile. That is the kind of efficiency that Zach Anderson was putting up at FGCU.

As the screener in pick-and-roll/pop, Riley accounts for 1.33 points per possession, which is in the 84th percentile.

Based on who is on the roster, if the Samford big were to come over, him and Kanga would likely be the backup four and five, although I am not sure who takes each spot.

From what I can tell, 6’11 would make Allenspach tied for the second tallest player in the conference behind L’Etang, unless I am missing someone.

This would be a tough guy to bring in, since it seems like there are some bigger fish targeting him.

Hopefully we are welcoming Allenspach to Mason Nation soon.
