Your George Mason Patriots beat the Stony Brook Seawolves 94 to 56, a 38 point difference. That is a lot.
Darius Maddox led the way in scoring as usual, scoring 20 on 5-8 from the field, but getting to the line a ton, shooting 8-9 from the stripe. If that can be a part of his game in the future, wow.
Giovanni Emejuru earned his first KenPom MVP as a Patriot, scoring 17 on 7-8 shooting, 3-4 from the line, and grabbed eight boards, with five of them being offensive. One of those boards was on his only miss of the game, which he then put back in the basket. Not a single empty shot all game. Emejuru is making a pretty good case to take over starting duties.
Bryson Cokley got his first three baskets in the green in gold, scoring 6 on 3-3. I get it was garbage time, but you can see the vision with him. If you squint, you can see Tyler Burton. Don’t forget this dude was a Wake Forest commit.
KD Johnson had somewhat of a confusing game, but he ended up with six assists, which is something you love to see. I can live with 9 points on 10 shots if you can give six assists, even if three turnovers come with it. I’m not a big fan of volume scorers, but if you can do it while being a plus defender, you get some slack.
Zach Anderson has arrived. Anderson scored 15 and grabbed 7 boards, making five of his first six threes, and ending up with 15 points on 10 shots. Him and Woody Newton combined for 15 rebounds, which is important since rebounding at the four was becoming a bit of a concern. It’s a small Stony Brook team, but I’m glad they have it in them.
Jared Billups and Brayden O’Connor were themselves, with Billups grabbing four board and dishing out four assists, and BOC scoring 9 on 3-3 shooting, adding three steals. Glue guys.
Mason scored 1.36 points per possession, compared to Stony Brook’s .81. 1.36 is the equivalent of making a two on 68% of your possessions. That is crazy.
The Patriots flew up to 80 on KenPom after this. This is the type of game you expect a fringe top 100 to win convincingly, but it takes an upper-level A10 team to destroy a team like this.
Also, I apologize for no tweets in this article. There was an update to WordPress and even though it will look good on my end, depending on how I do it, it will only post as a link or just the text part of the tweet, no video. Hopefully this can be fixed soon.
Next up, Central Michigan, the last game of the Marquette MTE.
