A big week for George Mason continues into the weekend as highly sought after transfer Keyshawn Hall has become the latest to commit to the Patriots. The Cleveland, OH native comes to Fairfax by way of UNLV, where he impressed in limited playing time as a freshman, averaging 5.4ppg in only 10.8mpg, displaying the explosive scoring potential that had a lot of programs inquire about his services once he entered the portal. He will have 3 years of eligibility.
At 6’7, 235lbs, Hall is a self-described “Big Guard”. Displaying an elite first step, he has shown the ability to blow by defenders, while also being able to break them down on the dribble in space, consistently finding ways to get down hill and finish around the basket in a variety of ways. The combination of size and quickness makes him a problem for whoever is guarding him. He can post up and overpower smaller defenders, while using his shiftiness to get around a more traditional post player. If the defense sags off, Hall is more than capable of knocking down the 3-ball, converting at a 50% clip last season (10-20).
This is an impressive recruiting win for this staff. Tony Skinn and Louis Hinnant led the charge and fended off a lot of big-name programs to attain Hall’s services. He slots into the roster as a primary offensive option, providing the staff with a young bucket getting piece that they can utilize all over the floor. With the additions of Hall, Nicolas Pavrette, Darius Maddox, Amari Kelly, and Jared Billups, Coach Skinn and his staff have not only gotten off to a fantastic start filling the roster, they’ve also landed guys who each have unique skill sets that can fill roles. The job isn’t close to finished, but from what we’ve seen so far, Mason Nation should feel very good about where this program is headed.
