On Saturday, George Mason (12-5, 1-3) took on George Washington (7-10, 1-3) in the second part of this A-10 road trip.

In the first half, Mason struggled to get going. It was close till about the 4-minute mark, then GW went on a 13-2 run to end the half. The score at the half, 33-27 GW. Mason finished this half going 10-30 (.333) from the floor, 2-9 from behind the arc, and 5-8 from the charity stripe.

Additionally, the Patriots recorded 19 rebounds, 7 assists, 7 steals, and 8 turnovers. Mason led for only 5 minutes of the entire half.

The Colonials, on the other hand, had a much better half. They finished going 12-25 (.480) from the floor, 5-10 from three and recorded 15 rebounds, 6 assists, and 9 turnovers. It seemed as if they had control of the entire half.

In the second half, Mason continued to be controlled by GW. They finished the second half with 40 points, going 14-32 from the field, 3-8 from three, and recorded 17 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 turnovers. The offensive was horrific in this game.

GW’s second half was a continuation of their first-half performance. They finished with 40 points going 12-24 from the floor, and 3-7 from behind the arc. Additionally, the Colonials grabbed 18 rebounds and tallied 4 assists.

GEORGE MASON FALLS 73-62 TO GW

Some things from this one:

Justin Kier did not play in this one. He reinjured his foot in practice this week and will most likely be out for the rest of the season. That is a huge blow to this Mason squad. Let’s hope for a hardship waiver to get him for one more year in the Green and Gold.

AJ Wilson finished with 16 points and hit a couple of mid-range jump shots; he was 6-14 from the floor, 6-8 for free throws, and recorded 11 rebounds (4 Off, 7 Def). Wilson needs to stay consistent.

Javon Greene finished the game scoring 11 points, going 3-13 from the field, 2-6 from behind the arc, and dished out 4 assists. He also finished with 4 steals, which is incredible as the Patriots average about 5 per game.

Everyone else on the squad tonight really underperformed. Only four players scored more than 4 points. That’s not great. Xavier Johnson really should have contributed more in the 32 minutes he played. He finished going 4-9 from the floor, 0-2 from behind the arc, 0-1 from the foul line, and recorded 7 rebounds, and 2 turnovers.

This was bad.

Mason needs to recover.

Whatever they’re doing right now is not the answer to a successful season.

Fix it.

See you on Saturday.
