On Wednesday, Mason (14-10, 8-3) traded blows with UMass (9-15, 2-9) in the second game of a two-game homestand.

The score was tied after the first half, each team recording 26 points. Mason went 9-26 from the field, 2-7 from three, 46 percent from the foul line, and recorded only 13 rebounds. UMass, on the other hand, shot 10-25, 3-9 from three, and registered 26 rebounds.

Mason struggled out of the get-go, allowing UMass to grab an early lead. However, these two programs traded bucket after bucket staying close after the ten-minute mark.

In the second half, the Patriots scored 34 points going 12-23 from the field and didn’t attempt a single three. Mason finished the second half with 12 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 turnovers.

The Minutemen closed this half also with 34 points, going 14-27 from the field, 5-10 from three, and recorded 14 rebounds.

In the overtime period, Mason outscored UMass 20-15, with both teams shooting 4-6 from the floor. The Patriots won this game on their free-throw shooting in OT going 11-13.

GEORGE MASON WINS 80-75 OVER UMASS IN OT

Some things from this one:

Otis Livingston led the team tonight with 21 points, going 5-11 from the floor, 0-2 from three, and had 3 steals. He had a great play off a steal in this one:

Jarred Reuter struggled against UMass at the post position for the majority of the game. He finished the night going 3-11 from the field, grabbing 7 rebounds, and tallied 31 minutes. Mason needs him to step up in the paint.

Javon Greene had himself a night scoring 17 points, going 5-6 from the floor, 2-3 from behind the arc, and a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe. He also had a clutch AND-1 in the first half:

AJ Wilson played great, even though he might not have shown up on the stat sheet. He drew 3 offensive fouls in this one, including a couple on UMass’s Rashaan Holloway to put him into foul trouble.

UMass at one point had six players on the court, which is like… illegal. So, they were issued a technical foul after some referee deliberations. GK tweeted about it:

Jordan Miller came up clutch with some big rebounds tonight, he finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and shot 4-6 from the floor.

Anyway.

George Mason takes on St. Bonaventure on Sunday.

See you then.
