On Monday, George Mason (4-6) hosted Vermont (6-3) as in the first game of their three-game homestand.

Again, Petey laid down the news.

Anyway.

In the first half, Vermont outscored Mason 27-22 going 11-33 from the field, 5-13 from behind the arc, and recorded 21 rebounds.

The Patriots shot failed to convert on 10 FGs going 8-23, 1-8 on 3’s, and recorded 17 rebounds.

Surprisingly, the lead was only 5 points for the Catamounts when I had thought it would be at least 15.

The Patriots played semi-decent defense during the first half but had 9 turnovers, on which the Catamounts registered 12 points.

In the second half, the Catamounts did a 180° going 15-23 for FG’s, almost double the FG% that they had in the first half (33.3%), resulting in 45 points. Additionally, Vermont recorded 15 rebounds and 9 turnovers.

The Patriots also scored 45 points, going 17-31 for FG’s, 2-10 on 3’s, and 12 rebounds. They also recorded 7 turnovers in the second half.

MASON LOSES 72-67 TO VERMONT

Some notable things from this game:

  • Justin Kier led the team with a career-high 32 points, going 12-15 from the field, 2-4 from three, and a perfect 6-6 from the stripe.
  • Ian Boyd had the second-most points with 12, no other Patriot had over 6. (Kier and Boyd: 44 points. Rest of team: 23)
  • Otis Livingston II did not register a single basket until 25 seconds left in the game. He did a 180° compared to last game against W&M. He recorded only 6 points and 7 turnovers. If Mason wants to perform well in conference play they need their players to be consistent, and right now, Mason is far from that.
  • Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Mason was outrebounded 36-29 with Mason only recording 7 offensive rebounds. It seemed as if Mason never went for rebounds on the offensive glass and that definitely needs to be changed.
  • Jarred Reuter had one of his worst games of the season, recording only 1 rebound, 0 points, and 3 turnovers.

Question of the game: Mason seems to be able to only play one side of their game tonight it was their defense (surprisingly) with no help on the offensive side. Why do you all think that is?

Let us know why you think that is in the comments below!

Anyway.

Mason’s next game will be at home against rival James Madison University on Friday, Dec. 7th

See you then.
