Your George Mason Patriots have brought in 6’7 Murray State transfer big Nick Ellington for a visit.

Ellington is as 6’7 old-fashioned post center out of St. Louis, who played his last two seasons at Murray State. Before that, he played a season at Eastern Illinois, and before that, played two seasons at Meridian Community College. This upcoming season will be his sixth season of college basketball. I assume the 6th year senior only has one season of eligibility remaining.

In his last season at Murray State, Nick averaged 9.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game on 56.1% overall (all from two) and 61.4% from the line, giving him a true shooting of 58.2%. He had a 10.9% and 17.2% offensive and defensive rebounding percentage, and was 10th and 16th in conference play in those categories.

The biggest thing that stands out is his 5.3 fouls drawn per 40, which was 153rd in the country. Along with that, Ellington led the Missouri Valley in free throws per 100 shots at 67.7.

The numbers look fine, but 6’7 at center is a bit worrying. His arms look kind of long, so maybe his effective height would be closer to a guy that is 6’9.

I can only find video from his time at Eastern Illinois when he was listed at 220 (now 235), but Nick moves like he is 6’7.

I think Ellington has the movement ability to play the four and five defensively, but would be limited to the five on offense due to not taking a three in his D1 career. I could see a world where he is the starting center for your 2025-26 George Mason Patriots.

Nick seems like the level of player that I would be elated to have coming off the bench, but would be a bit worried as a starter, especially his backup being a freshman in Emmanuel Kanga.
