Kory Mincy

Kory Mincy is a 6’2 PG out of East Point, Georgia, which is south of Atlanta, playing his first two seasons at Presbyterian. This makes Mincy a junior, giving him two season of eligibility. He visited on April 3rd.

The Presbyterian transfer averaged 15 points, 4.4 assists, 2 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game on 40% from the field, 36.8% from three, and 79.1% from the line, with an eFG% of 47.6% and True Shooting of 50.9%.

He only averaged 1.7 turnovers per game, which may sound like a decent bit, but when you look at his conference numbers, he had the third highest assist rate at 26.1% and 18th lowest turnover rate at 13.4%. 15% or lower is generally the benchmark for being good, so you will take what he was doing during conference play.

That is with a massive offensive workload, considering Mincy was the only real PG option on the team, while taking 28.7% of the shots when he was on the floor, which is ranked 147th in the country, and his 28.8% got him 5th in conference play.

If you look at his freshman season’s efficiency, it looks a lot better. I would assume he is not taking the same offensive workload, so in my mind, a reasonable outcome would be him getting back to his freshman 54.3% true shooting efficiency, while keeping the sophomore playmaking breakout.

Another plus is that Mincy drew 4.3 fouls per 40 on the season, with that rising to 4.7 per 40 in conference play, 17th in the Big South.

There is not too much video of Kory’s college career, but based on the little I have seen, he will create his own shot and take off-the-dribble threes if needed, does a lot of drive-and-kicking, and sometimes wears a cool headband.

Of course, if Mason gets him to commit, I will do a deep dive into a game of his.

Kam Martin

This one happened first, but we found out about it later, so I will put it second since it feels more cohesive in my head.

Kam Martin, a 6’4 guard transfer from Long Beach State, visited Mason on April 2nd, will visit UNC Wilmington on April 21st. Kam is from Montgomery, Maryland, and will have three years of eligibility.

As a freshman at Long Beach State, Martin averaged 8.4 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 0.9 steals on 39.8% from the field, 34.6% from three, and 81.3% from the line, with an eFG of 48.3% and a True Shooting of 52.2%. Those are solid numbers from deep, especially from a freshman.

The MoCo native would add a nice blend of on and off-ball scoring, likely off the bench. There’s a highlight of him taking a charge in the fast break with a guy going full speed. It is nice to know that this dude will get into a small car crash on the court to help his team.

This could be the first local commit of the portal cycle. The team is running low on DMV guys, this would be a fun one to bring in.
