How do you, how do you do Mason Nation! That’s the type of win we love to see at home! It was a key win over a very good Toledo team, one that’s a favorite to win the MAC this year, and we’ll always take those Ws!
DeVon Cooper led the way today, with 19 points on 8-12 shooting from the field. Coop was good from inside and outside the three point line, and once again took over the game in critical moments.
With Josh Oduro limited due to early foul trouble, Ginika Ojiako and Malik Henry both stepped up in key moments today. Ginika ended with 9 points, and Malik had 8 points and 7 boards. Key play from the bench like that when you need it is when you know your depth is good.
Toledo was led by JT Shumate, who had 20, followed by Setric Millner, who had 16 for the Rockets. However, the Mason D shut down joint leading scorer RayJ Dennis, who only had 10 for the Rockets today on 4-18 shooting. Toledo struggled more than normal from the field today, as they’ve averaged 49% from the field coming into the day. Mason held them to just 41% shooting on the day.
“Our focus was the defensive side today. It is statistically known that when you get stops, your offense will play better.”, said Head Coach Kim English. “When you make stops, you’ll play better and that’s what we did today.”
