How do you do Mason Nation! After a slow start your Patriots took the rivals from down the way to task, beating American 73-56 this afternoon.
It was indeed a slow start for Mason, who found themselves down 34-27 at the half. It was a combination of American hitting some threes (they had 8 in the first half alone) along with Mason themselves struggling with turnovers and getting off some good shots. Head Coach Kim English said in today’s press conference “We had to make some defensive adjustments to how they were shooting the ball. Once we did that in the second half, we had a lot more success.”
And have more success the Patriots did. American only had three more from beyond the arc the rest of the game and Mason dominated in the second half, outscoring AU 46-22. Not only did that mean Mason ended up with a dominating scoreline, but even more importantly, they covered the spread.
Transfer Victor Bailey Jr lead Mason with 23 points on the day, going an efficient 8/10 from the field. DeVon Cooper added 18, with 15 coming from threes. Josh Oduro only had 13 points today, but added in 6 assists today, adding another asset to his book of tricks.
Mason now heads to the US Virgin Islands to play in the Paradise Jam Tournament. They kick it off Friday night at 8PM against ACC outfit Boston College, which you can catch on ESPN3 and ESPN+.
