There’s been a lot of talk by Mason fans about the lack of interaction between Dave Paulsen/the Athletic Department and the former players. It’s well documented on Twitter, multiple players have tweeted about it, Ryan Kish of GMUhoops has talked to players about it and recently Chris and Petey discussed it on the latest By George podcast. Many fans/ex players wanted Skinn or Caputo hired as that nostalgia pick, it makes sense. There’s rumors that Mason interviewed them, and rightfully so. However, Brad Edwards chose to go in a different direction, and Mason Nation and well the whole nation appears to stand behind that decision.
Kim English took to Twitter to thank everyone for the warm welcomes etc. but also had this to say, “George Mason has such a rich basketball history and is slap dab in one of the most basketball rich areas in the WORLD. I want former Mason basketball players heavily involved in this program (It belongs to you). I hope our players make YOU proud by how hard we play.”
He addressed former players directly and told them that this program belongs to them. Sure, we’ll need to see the evidence but he’s damn sure convincing. His Twitter thread was only 4 tweets and one full tweet was dedicated to alumni. This coach is hitting all the right buttons for a classic Mason GIF dance off on Twitter.
