In a must-win game, George Mason (13-9, 2-7) will take on UMass (9-13, 1-4) on the road for the second time this season.

This contest will mark the 13th time these two programs have battled, with Mason currently leading the series 9-3.

Mason currently sits 11th in the A-10, with UMass in 10th. The Patriots sit in the bottom four of the conference. Mason needs a win. They need a win. If Mason wins this game, they’ll switch spots with UMass in the standings.

Breaking Down UMass

Let’s check up to see if anything’s changed since my last UMass preview.

  • Tre Mitchell still leads the Minutemen in points per game *Check*
    • Tre Mitchell continues to lead the team with 16.2 ppg.
  • UMass is 9th in the conference in ppg *Nope*
    • They have dropped to 10th with 69.5 ppg.
  • Jonathan Laurent is still the A10’s top three-pointer shooter *Nope*
    • Carl Pierre still leads UMass with 63 made 3FGs, but T.J. Weeks still leads the team in 3FG% with 48.5 percent.
  • UMass has three players averaging double-digit points *Check*
    • They have three players averaging double-digits: Tre Mitchell (16.2), T.J. Weeks (14.7), and Carl Pierre (13.5).

Breaking Down George Mason

Javon Greene led the Patriots with 17 points and seven rebounds in Olean. He is seventh in the A-10 in scoring in league play (17.0 ppg) and third in steals (2.7 spg). He’s scored 10+ points in six of the past seven contests. He can’t do everything by himself though.

Mason ranks 12th in the A-10 in ppg, 12th in FG% (41.5), second to last in 3FG% (30.7), and dead last in assists per game (11.09).

Mason has dropped five of six games since Kier’s injury.

However,

A-10 Twitter has decided and has ruled that the one and only Green Machine is the best band in the land.

Mason desperately needs this win, but I don’t feel as if they’ll get it.

My Prediction: A Mason, “L.
