#MasonGameDay: George Mason vs. Longwood

George Mason (1-0) is back at it again for their second game of the season. It’s Gold Rush, and we’re playing none other than … Longwood (0-0). They played an exhibition game against a D-III school and apparently they’re counting that as a non-conference win, but nay, I disagree.

For your amusement, I have replaced all the photos in this article with photos of long wood.

I have to be honest, I didn’t even know that Longwood was a D-I school.

Nevertheless, this is the second all-time meeting between the two schools. The first was on Dec. 12, 2016, with Mason winning 97-60, the second season the Patriots were under the direction of Dave Paulsen.

Breaking Down Longwood

In their exhibition game against Marymount (which they won 73-51), 52.1 percent of their scoring came from the bench.

I’d also like to see how Paulsen matches up to his players to Longwood’s. The reason being is that Longwood’s average height is 6-4, this includes two players over the height of 6-10.

Players to look out for:

Shabooty Phillips (14.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.8 apg)

Christian Wilson (12.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg)

Jaylon Wilson (11.0 ppg, .495 FG%)

Breaking Down Mason

Mason played well in their first game, but not great. Going to OT with Navy, in my opinion, is not something to be proud of.

However, Xavier Johnson looked to be the star of the show for me. He posted 15 points in that game, all great shots.

AJ Wilson also stepped into the role of a starter tallying multiple crowd invigorating dunks, which I think kept Mason in this game.

I believe that Justin Kier would help this team sooooo much, I just hope he’ll be back before the Patriots play the Terrapins.

We saw the Patriots play down to their opponent against Navy, I pray for the life of me that Mason does not play the same way. This should be the easiest of wins.

Mason wins 94-71. Sharpie.
