On Friday night, George Mason played Longwood, in a heavily lopsided game.

Mason got out to a hot start in this one shutting out Longwood up until about the 13-minute mark, a 15-1 lead.

The Patriots hit 32 points in the first with about three minutes left in the half, before they let loose and gave up an 11-1 run. (This is including a last-second three-point shot by Longwood to end the half.)

Mason finished the half scoring 33 points, shooting 13-28 from the field (46.4%), and recorded 26 rebounds, six assists, three blocks (I swear there were more) and seven turnovers.

Longwood up until their 11-1 run, was held to just 13 rebounds, 1-12 from behind the arc, two points on points from turnovers, and two points off second-chance attempts.

Post 11-1 run, the Lancers finished the half going 9-36 (25%) from the floor, 3-15 from three, and recorded 20 rebounds.

Mason leads Longwood 33-22 at the half.

The Lancers came storming out of the gates (*wink*) in the second half, holding Mason scoreless for two minutes before Javon Greene laid in a dunk. Longwood scored two more three’s to make the score 38-32.

At the 14 minute mark, the Lancers had made four threes. Not good for Mason.

Just when you thought Mason would blow it, they had an answer for every three the Lancers put in. This was thanks primarily to Javon Greene. (59-51, 9 minutes to go)

In the second half, George Mason scored 43 points, going 16-25 from the field, 4-8 from three, and recorded 15 rebounds, eight assists, and seven turnovers.

For Longwood, they scored 43 points, going 16-31 from the field, 7-16 from three, and recorded just 12 rebounds, nine assists, and four turnovers.

GEORGE MASON WINS 76-65 OVER LONGWOOD

Some things of note from this one:

The three freshmen look great for Mason, Oduro and Johnson, specifically.

Xavier Johnson does not look like he’s a freshman. He finished this game with insanely good takes to the basket (2-3 FG). This kid has some great potential to be really good.

Like look at this. LOOK AT THIS.

Mason’s three-point defense dissipated in the second half, letting too many shooters shoot the long ball. Defenders were lost on many plays.

Javon Greene really stepped up today.

Greene hit many vital threes in the second half, finishing the game going 6-8 from the floor, 4-5 from behind the arc, 3-3 from the charity stripe, totaling 18 points. (Also three rebounds)

Also this,

Good game from Mason today.

See you next Wednesday for Mason vs. LIU Brooklyn at home.
