On Sunday, George Mason  (15-10, 9-3) took on St. Bonaventure (10-14, 6-5), in their second meeting of the season.

Ouch.

The first 5 minutes of this game were bad, with the Bonnies pulling ahead to a 16-0 lead. Lead.

In the first half, the Bonnies dropped 42 points, going 16-26 from the floor, 6-10 from three, recording 17 rebounds, and 11 assists.  SBU also recorded 20 points in the paint and 11 points off Patriots’ turnovers.

This was rough.

Mason scored only 25 points finishing 9-25 from the field, 4-11 from behind the arc, recording 13 rebounds and 9 turnovers. The Patriots only scored 8 points in the paint, and 5 off of SBU’s 6 turnovers.

Not much. Not much at all.

In the second half, Mason scored 31 points, going 11-27 from the floor, 4-14 from three, recording 18 rebounds, and only 4 turnovers. This effort was decent if it wasn’t for the fact that our defense was absent for the most part.

St. Bonaventure doubled down scoring 37, going 15-29 from the field, 5-9 from three, recording 14 rebounds, and only 2 turnovers. To say the Patriots were outplayed is an understatement, they were dominated.

This is their worst loss of the season and worst loss since Mason lost 86-59 to Davidson on 1/7/18.

GEORGE MASON LOSES 79-56 AGAINST ST. BONAVENTURE

Some things from this one:

The was the worst start I’ve ever seen a Patriots begin with; Mason failed to score a single point until the 15:47 mark. That’s 4 minutes and 13 seconds of no scoring and the Bonnies scoring 16 points. Not good.

Justin Kier led the team tonight with 21 points, going 8-14 from the floor, 3-7 from downtown and he grabbed 6 rebounds. He was a breath of fresh air for the Patriots in the second half, but the Bonnies ended up suffocating Mason with shot after shot.

Otis Livingston II and Jordan Miller both recorded 10 points. While Miller had 5 rebounds, Otis was injured the 2nd half.

The injuries are starting to pile up.

Mason’s defense is struggling without Calixte. The man that sealed the lane from layups and dunks is now sitting on the bench going through concussion protocol.

The Mason offense is struggling without the clutch Ian Boyd, his three-pointers during the game are momentum changers.

With this loss, the race for the last two spots for a double-bye is now wide open.

Anyway.

Saturday is Homecoming, Mason plays Duquesne.

See you there.
