On Wednesday, George Mason (10-8, 4-1) played UMass (7-10, 0-4) on the road in Massachusetts.
It was close in the first half, the Patriots scored 23 points going 10-29 from the field and 1-9 from three. Mason only shot it from the line twice in this half, had 21 rebounds, and 6 turnovers. They really needed to have a better performance in this half.
The Minutemen shot for 21 points going 8-29 and 1-11 from three. They also had 20 rebounds, 7 turnovers and more than doubled Mason in bench points (14-6).
In the second half, the Patriots scored 45 points going 12-21 from the field and 3-9 from three. Mason was at the line 20 times in this half, was out-rebounded (19-14), and had 4 turnovers. This was much better, if the Patriots could start doing this, we could possibly have more 80 or 90 point games.
There was never that much separation created in terms of the score. The Minutemen’s largest lead in this half was only 4 and Mason’s was only 7. UMass put up a decent 42 point effort going 16-37 from the field, 8-21 from behind the arc.
GEORGE MASON WINS 68-63 OVER UMASS
Some notable things from this one:
Justin Kier is on fire. He has now scored his 7th double-double in the last 8 games. He led the Patriots tonight with 22 points going 8-12 from the field, 0-1 from three, and also grabbed 8 rebounds in the process. He is starting to look like the favorite to win POY if he keeps this up.
Javon Greene had a great night scoring a career-high 19 points. He went 6-11 from the field, 2-5 from behind the arc, and recorded 8 rebounds. He took some charges and also put up this creative shot:

Otis Livingston II kicked in 12 points to the pot, however, 7 of those points came from the charity stripe. (No disrespeck tho) He went 2-11 from the field, 1-6 from three, and dished out 5 assists.
One crazy stat from Joe Campione:
You talk about doing the little things, George Mason has missed a total of 3 free throws in the last two games. It didn’t mean much outcome-wise the other day, but was probably the deciding factor tonight

Jordan Miller. This man got his first career start tonight after I nudged Dave Paulsen in my last recap. He finished with 7 points, going 2-5 from the field, 1-3 from three, and snagged 3 rebounds. Would have liked more from the guy, but it’s only his second career game, so I’ll let it go. Great stuff.
Mason Women’s basketball came in clutch winning their game against UMass. I would have loved to have been there for both games. One interesting thing; I don’t remember the last time Mason had both teams play the same opponent, on the same day, on the road. Let me know if you know.
