We finally did that thing where we score more points than another team. 🙂
Anyway, It’s great to get the first win.
I’m happy.
However, as our friend @A10Talk said, it should have ended a bit differently.
Southern is the 345th best team in the country. This should have been an absolute blowout…

Nonetheless, a win is still a win, and it’s good that Mason finally gets one in the win column.
First Half
Mason
FG%: 15-30 (50.0%)
3-Pt%: 3-9 (33.3%)
FT%: 4-6 (66.7%)
Reb: 15
TO’s: 4
These are great stats, I personally, would like to see one more of those free throws go in, but overall good. Mason scored 37 points. I would be happy any night if we scored like this in the first half.
Southern
FG%: 11-29 (37.9%)
3-Pt%: 1-7 (14.3%)
FT%: 2-2 (100.0%)
Reb: 20
TO’s: 7
I thought Mason’s defense looked weak at times, especially when they allowed for uncontested layups and jumpers. I appreciate how Mason came out more disciplined this game only taking 6 PF with 1 of them leading to FT’s. Great stuff.
However, because this was Southern who is, in fact, ranked 345th in the nation, the lead to end the half should have been at least double what it was.
Second half
Mason
FG%: 7-21 (33.3%)
3-Pt%: 1-11 (9.1%)
FT%: 17-20 (85.0%)
Reb: 18
TO’s: 9
Eh. Not so good. Mason shot not as well in the second half. I would’ve liked for a much better performance in the second half. Mason still managed to score 32 points.
Southern
FG%: 16-35 (45.7%)
3-Pt%: 4-10 (40.0%)
FT%: 4-7 (57.1%)
Reb: 17
TO’s: 7
This is the type of half I would have liked for Mason to play, but it obviously didn’t go that way.
MASON WINS AGAINST SOUTHERN 69-65
Some things to note from this game:
- Have you felt like you lost, even though you won? I kinda get that feeling now.
- Hopefully, we can use this momentum to push us through NC Central on Tuesday and into Florida.
- Otis Livingston II had a bounce back game scoring 17 points, but is still looking for his first 3-pointer of the year.
- A.J. Wilson scored 12 points before being elbowed in the head by teammate Gonar Mar in the final minute. We can’t afford to lose Wilson for any period of time. Also check out this insane dunk:

- Justin Kier and Jaire Grayer both had solid night with 11 points.
- Dave Paulsen seems to still be experimenting with lineups. Hopefully, he can figure things out before we take on Cincinnati.
- More than 50% of our 2nd half points were off of free throws. Need to produce more aside from the charity stripe.
The next game is against NC Central on Tuesday as a part of the Emerald Coast Classic.
See you then.
